Bus services in North Cyprus
There is mostly interurban and rural type of bus service in Northern Cyprus. Although there are public buses in North Nicosia, they tend to mainly service the suburbs outside the Old City. Buses leave from near Kyrenia Gate. In Kyrenia there exists the collective way of transport that is carried out on the main road. For reaching the areas around Kyrenia, however it is better to hire a car or take a taxi.
Taxi
Taxis are to be found at Taxi stands only. Fares are reasonable and in 2007 meters were introduced so that the fare is displayed for the customer in Turkish lira.
Dolmus
This system of privately operated taxis/mini buses is a cheap option for travellers. These shared vehicles can be stopped anywhere and there are obvious pick up points in major town centres and also in some of the larger villages. The buses have their destinations marked up; usually on cards in their front windows.

Driving Licence in North Cyprus
A valid British driving licence is recognised in the TRNC for a limited period, as is an International Driving Licence. Anyone owning a car in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is required to have, within three months, a TRNC driving licence. If this is not obtained and an accident occurs, the car insurance becomes null and void.
A licence can be obtained on presentation of a temporary or permanent Residency Permit in North Cyprus and your original British driving licence, together with a photocopy of both sides and 2 passport sized photographs. Forms are available from the Taxation Office in Kyrenia (Girne). There is a fee for the driving licence; a 1,2,3,5 or 10 year licence may be bought. A test may be taken locally in Northern Cyprus to obtain a first ever driving licence.
